How To Detox Your Mind In 5 Easy Steps

Hey momma! What’s up? How’s it going? I’m guessing you’re probably getting ready to begin your annual Spring clean, or maybe, you’re on top of things and have already started?! Good for you, my friend! But, here’s the thing we spend so many times cleaning and de-cluttering our homes and offices, right? But, when last have you detox your mind?

Not sure what’s a mind detox? Keep reading to find out more.

When you feel your mind is overloaded it's time for a mind detox

What’s a Mind Detox?

A mind detox is a process where we cleanse our minds so we can get rid of the many negative and limiting beliefs that are keeping us from moving forward. As moms, we judge ourselves more often than we should. We judge others without knowing their stories or even knowing why we are judging them. We are worried about what others will think of us. Are we doing a good job at parenting? What can we do differently? And the list goes on.

But why do we put so much pressure on ourselves? Is it because it’s the new culture we are living in?! Whatever the reason is, we need to take care of ourselves as moms. We have a family to take care of and loved ones who are counting on us.

What Happens When We Overload Our Minds?

Overloading of the mind can negatively impact you in one or more of the following ways:

Feeling of unworthiness

When our minds are constantly bombarded with beliefs that do not serve us, we begin to feel unworthy. We begin to feel less than who we are. We act from a place of lack and greed, which makes us feel we are not good enough when compared to others.

Lower self-esteem

When you begin to feel unworthy, you will feel less confident in yourself. You begin having self-doubts which will lower your self-esteem. Low self-esteem can create stress and anxiety, which can lead to depression. Some of your relationships may also be affected by low self-esteem.

Make you feel unhappy

When we struggle with our worthiness and low self-esteem, we will feel so much weight – that we will not be happy. We will keep searching for happiness in the wrong places because we are so overloaded that we ourselves have no idea what makes us happy.

When we are overloaded, we are unable to take care of ourselves as moms. And in so doing, we will not be able to be present for our kids. Or take care of our kids the way we would really want to.

Stress and fatigue

Because you have so much going on in your mind, you will struggle to fall asleep at night. You will feel tension, very easily which will contribute to stress and exhaustion.

Breakdown in relationships and communications

Because you are so tense – you will easily snap at those who say something to you, intending to be supportive that you may have incorrectly interpreted. You will isolate yourself from friends because you feel unworthy. You will feel like you don’t fit in anymore.

Health problems

When we overload our minds, we become so overwhelmed that we forget to look after ourselves. We begin to binge eat – which may lead to overeating, or we forget to eat which is also not good for our health. Exercise becomes a thing of the past. All of these behaviors will affect our health negatively.

Benefits Of Detoxing Your Mind

The benefits of mind detox is endless

Are you still wondering if it’s necessary to detox your mind?! Well, if you are! Here are some of the many benefits you can achieve from having a mind detox.

Reduce stress and anxiety

You will be able to better cope with uncertainties and anxieties that may arise in your day-to-day life. You will be able to think and understand situations before acting and later having regrets.

Think before acting

Have you ever reacted to a situation and later wished you didn’t? We all have been there before, right?

Well, a mind detox helps us think before speaking or acting in a haste. We will pause and think through how we react and what we say when facing a challenging situation.

Enjoy a better night sleep

We struggle to sleep at night when we have too many things on our minds. You know, worry about your kids at school. What should you prepare for dinner for the next day, bills that are overflowing and so forth?

When you detox your mind, you release many of the anxieties and thoughts that may create stress in your life. When you are less stressed, you will be able to fall asleep faster and enjoy a night of better sleep.

Accept yourself

How many times have you struggled to feel worthy because of the toxic thoughts racing through your minds? Detoxing your mind will help you rid yourself of all these unwanted emotions. And instead, cultivate thoughts that help you strengthen your self-worth through self-love.

Feel good

Ah! We all want to feel good, right?! When we are free from all of our tensions and worries – we will be able to see all the great things we have in life. We will embrace our present, allowing ourselves to feel joyous. Expressing gratification.

Be more present

When we feel good and our minds are free, we will be more aware of our needs. We will be able to stay focus on our goals. Being more mindful of the inspired actions that come your way.

5 Steps to Detox Your Mind

5 easy steps to detox your mind

As moms, we are easily overwhelmed. After all, we have so many different roles to play. Roles we try really hard to perfect.

Whenever you start feeling a bit overwhelming, and there’s just too much happening. In other words, you are experiencing mind clutter – it’s time you commit to taking care of yourself as a mom. And one way you can do that is by detoxing your mind.

Here are easy steps that you can take to detox your mind.

Step 1: Recognize why you are feeling overwhelmed

I know! It’s absolutely hard for us moms to admit that we feel overwhelmed. Because we are fearful of being judged or criticized for being a “bad mom.”

Here’s the thing! Admitting that you feel stressed or burned out doesn’t mean you’re being selfish. It simply means you are taking care of yourself. And the truth is. It’s essential to take care of yourself as a mom and prioritize your needs. Because here is the thing if you don’t, you will NOT BE able to care and provide for your loved ones the way you would really want to.

So, whenever you feel like too many thoughts are racing through your mind, take some time away from your mommy duty and care for yourself by sitting in a quiet area, be honest with yourself and write down why do you feel so weighed down, is it work, is it finances, is it school, is it family or is it time?

What is it that have you feeling overwhelmed? Ask yourself this question and be absolutely honest with yourself.

Don’t be ashamed of your truth!

Write it down!

DO NOT be lazy and skip this step. Please write it down, journal about it, as it will bring clarity to you. And once you begin writing, you would be way more detailed than if you were to think about it mentally.

Pssssst: Here’s some journaling prompts just for you.
  • How do I feel today?
  • Why do I feel this way?
  • What will make me feel better today?
  • How can I feel better today?
  • What do I really want?
  • Am I happy with my life?
  • What areas in my life would I like to bring change to? And how can I do this?

These are the exact journaling prompts that I use in my own life when I feel strangled by my own emotions.

Give them a try, and please share your experience with me in the comments or send me a dm on Instagram.

Step 2: Detox Your Mind By Releasing. Release, Release.

Now that you have identified your emotions and why or what makes you overwhelmed. You need to release it. Release the judgment you have about yourself. The anger, the pain, the fear, the frustration you may feel. And think about the things that bring joy to you and do the things that bring joy to you.

Put all electronic devices down, detach yourself from social media for a few minutes. Go for a walk outside enjoying nature, window shopping, get together with a friend, and have a coffee break.

Put your favourite music on, and dance like no one is watching. Break free and be a kid again! Dance and dance until you feel good. Whatever it may take for you to release the toxicity that you’ve bottled up. Just do it!

Step 3: Breathing / Meditation With Breathing Exercise

It’s quite easy for our minds to chase after all those random thoughts. Did you know the average person has between 6,000 to 6,200 thoughts per day?

These thoughts pop in when we least expect them forcing us to forget about our priorities. That’s why mind detox is so much needed!

Meditation can effectively support you throughout your mind detox practice.

Here’s a great breathing meditation that can help you when you feel stress and anxious. And the best part is, you can do this exercise anywhere: – on your commute to work or home, before a business meeting, while cooking dinner, wherever and whenever needed, you can use this breathing exercise.

Breathe in and count for a count of four, hold your breath and count for four and then release your breath through your mouth and count for four. Do this breathing technique for at least 15 minutes daily, and you will be in awe of the massive impact it can have on YOU.

And hey, if you don’t have 15 minutes to spare, then do this breathing exercise for a minute a few times during the day.

(Psssst … you can also use this breathing exercise to help you work through step 2 as mentioned above.)

Step 4: Visualization

So, what is visualization?

In her book Creative Visualization, Shakti Gawain defines visualization as the art of using mental imagery and affirmation to produce positive changes in your life.

All you have to do is sit in a quiet space with your eyes closed and without any limitation, imagine your perfect day from start to end. What do you really want in your life? How do you want to feel? Where do you want to live, work? Who do you want to wake up next to? What kind of clothes do you want to be wearing? Who do you want to be?

Take the time, to be honest with yourself and dream.

If you can dream it, you can do it. Always remember that this whole thing was started by a mouse.”

You can also perform virtualization through mediation or with the use of a vision board.

Not sure what’s a vision board?! No worries.

This link will take you to a fantastic YouTube Video. Build a vision board.

Visualize where you would like to be in your life right now and co-create that vision with the universe.

Be unapologetic about your thoughts and vision. Simply relax and enjoy the feelings you are experiencing at the moment, knowing that this is your life, and you can manifest your life exactly the way you want it to be. You can manifest the feelings you want to have and who you want to be. You can manifest anything you want!

Embrace your desires, knowing that it’s already yours. Trust your intuition and be guided to take the inspired actions that will lead you to live and be who you want to be.
